Terminals, Departure Times and Road Travel Safety

A 12-hour intercity leg goes better with the right terminal, the right bag and a realistic buffer around the posted departure time.

Start at the right gate. Lagos departures leave from Jibowo, Ojota, Mile 2, Berger, Oshodi and Yaba; Abuja arrivals are Utako, Jabi, Kubwa and Zuba. The terminals sit in different parts of each city, so choosing by where your city journey starts or ends can save an hour of traffic at both ends of the same ticket.

Know your seat and your bag. Coaches run standard AC, VIP two-across reclining and executive 2+1 layouts, and the luggage rule is one bag under about 20 kg plus hand luggage — an extra suitcase is charged separately or refused at boarding.

Treat the posted time as a target. Departures run 30-90 minutes past the printed hour once the vehicle is full and loaded, so plan anything tight in the arrival city around that window. A 07:00 departure typically arrives between 17:00 and 21:00; overnight departures save a hotel night and arrive early.

Prepare for the leg itself. There are two scheduled rest stops of 20-30 minutes each on the 750 km run, and the leg can stretch to 12 hours, so carry food, water and a power bank rather than relying on what is available en route.

Carry cash for tolls. The corridor has 1-4 toll plazas per direction and the plaza list changed repeatedly through 2025-2026, so confirm the current plazas before departure and keep small notes ready.

Book ahead on the days everyone travels. Coaches fill by the evening before and sell out 3-7 days ahead for Friday, Sunday and public-holiday departures; a phone or app booking is worth the day it costs.
